Lipica Farm celebrates this year its 440th anniversary. of the Farm. It was founded in 1580 and, as imperial-royal horse breeding, raised the Lipizzaners for the court of Vienna and the famous Spanish Riding School.
Today the Lipica Farm – as a farm originating from the Lipizzana breed – is one of the most important cultural and historical monuments of the Republic of Slovenia and, at the same time, one of the most recognizable tourist destinations in the Republic of Slovenia.
With the aim of protecting intangible cultural heritage, the Republic of Slovenia – together with seven other countries – has submitted a multinational application for the inclusion of the “Traditions of Lipizzaner Farming” on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
The vision of Allevamento di Lipica – as the original breeding of the Lipizzaner horse breed – is to become an equestrian center of international renown, operating in accordance with the values of the protection of the cultural landscape in the environment of a protected historical core and the karst landscape. The Lipica Breeding is therefore developing in the direction of becoming the best professional institution and breeding of Lipizzaner horses of primary importance in the world.
The mission of Allevamento di Lipica is to provide first quality services in the field of Lipizzaner horse breeding and in the equestrian field, as well as the protection, conservation and development of cultural and natural heritage. The coordinated development of tourism activities and the effective exploitation of commercial potential are essential for the implementation of its mission. Tourism activities must in fact provide part of the funds for the protection of primary content and part of the funds for the implementation and development of all other activities.
The Lipica Farm – which also includes the Majestic Hotel and a golf course within its property – is just developing actively in the direction of tourism.
