Description of the area:

The park is located in the classical Karst and is a true open-air museum. Here you can acquaint yourself with distinctive aboveground and subterranean karst phenomena, the most characteristic example of which is unequivocally the Škocjan Caves (Škocjanske jame) system with its unique natural values. The area is renowned for its exceptional archaeological finds, pioneering explorations of the Karst underground, and rich natural and cultural heritage. Your stay in the park can be short or last several days, and can even include a visit to the Reka River basin in all its diversity.

Cultural heritage plays an important role in the planning of sustainable development in the Škocjan Caves Park, primarily as a preservation of tradition and the transfer of an intergenerational present cultural and past identity. Within the framework of sustainable development, the Slovene and English thrust of the Ten Commandments for the sustainable development of the school network, a series of short documentaries on the underworld, the river, the inhabitants, ‘Knights of the River’, have been produced. The Sustainable Mobility Plan was obtained through the MobiTour project to promote the use of sustainable vehicles and the implementation of borrowing. Through an international network of schools and a network of universities, it caters to the education and awareness of schoolchildren, and thus to the general public, about the natural values ​​and cultural heritage of the PSJ, BOK and Karst.
